About The Patriotic American Red, White and Blue - Myth, Mystery and Fact
When the United States' founding fathers designed the flag for their new country they designed it with thirteen alternating red and white
stripes and with thirteen white stars on a background of blue to represent a new "constellation" of stars in the heavens.
However, it wasn't until a
few years later in 1782 when congress was defining the great seal of the United States,
that the meaning behind the colors was "officially" defined. The meaning behind the colors was
meant to represent the values held by the founding fathers of 1776.
Red for valor and blue for vigilance, perseverance and justice.
White was chosen to represent purity and innocence. There is actually no evidence to suggest that red was used
to signify the loss of blood in the American Revolutionary War, or blue for Washington's coat, rather, many believe the colors red, white and blue
were chosen simply because those were the colors of the British flag, something the founding fathers were already familiar with.
In more recent years, the patriotic colors of the United States have been specifically defined for graphic
